Amanda and James Look East
Just to report, for those of you resident in our childhood town of Cambridge, that Red Button Design will be having a rather nifty profile done of us this evening on that infamous of broadcasting delights "Look East" Sadly we are unable to travel down to meet the presenters in person but through the wonders of modern technology we'll be chatting with them via our home studio in Glasgow's Pacific Quay.
So if you are in their broadcast area do tune in to this evening's "Look East", for those of you resident elsewhere I will endeavour to get a copy to upload for your viewing delight :o)

Red Button Join World Health Organisation's "Household Water Treatment and Safe Storage Network"
Red Button Design have been accepted into the World Health Organisation's "Household Water Treatment and Safe Storage (HWTS) Network"
The Network will strive to empower people without access to improved water sources, plus those with improved but unsafe sources, to take charge of their own drinking water safety by working with communities to implement effective, affordable and sustainable HWTS interventions.
The WHO produced the following statement:
Red Button Design look forward to being able to contribute to the Network beginning with a series of field trials in the Mewat region of India this summer.

The Network will strive to empower people without access to improved water sources, plus those with improved but unsafe sources, to take charge of their own drinking water safety by working with communities to implement effective, affordable and sustainable HWTS interventions.
The WHO produced the following statement:
"Studies have shown that improving the microbiological quality of household water by on-site or point-of-use treatment and safe storage in improved vessels reduces diarrheal and other waterborne diseases in communities and households of developing as well as developed countries. The extent to which improving drinking water quality at the household level reduces diarrheal disease probably depends on a variety of technology-related as well as site-specific environmental and demographic factors that require further investigation, characterization and analyses. Reductions in household diarrheal diseases of 6-90% have been observed, depending on the technology and the exposed population and local conditions.
The most promising and accessible of the technologies for household water treatment are filtration with ceramic filters, chlorination with storage in an improved vessel, solar disinfection in clear bottles by the combined action of UV radiation and heat, thermal disinfection (pasteurization) in opaque vessels with sunlight from solar cookers or reflectors and combination systems employing chemical coagulation-flocculation, sedimentation, filtration and chlorination. All of these systems have been shown to dramatically improve the microbiological quality of water.
Further development, refinement, implementation, evaluation and comparison of household water treatment and safe storage technologies is both justified and encouraged."
Red Button Design look forward to being able to contribute to the Network beginning with a series of field trials in the Mewat region of India this summer.

On location
James and I are at the Glasgow School of Art this afternoon filming for a new project to be shown at London's BAFTA Theatre in April. For once Glasgow has given us it's blessing and we are bathed in sunshine inside the Mackintosh Building. Watch this space for further updates on our blossoming film careers! (Before long you'll be spotting our obligatory cameos on Taggart!)*

Semi-Finalists, Red Button Design Final 10 HSBC Unipreneurs!
James and I spent 3 1/2 hours on Tuesday in HSBC tower, Canary Wharf, London pitching to 6 Judges as one of the final 10 entrants in HSBC's £20,000 Unipreneurs Competition.
Admittedly we forwent sleep the prior night to develop a range of printed leaflets and brocures and spent a total of 13 3/4 hours travelling to and from the interview with london traffic so bad I had to get changed in the back of a black cab!
Nevertheless I think we did brilliantly and we will be rolling out some new branding to the website and this blog throughout the lifespan of the competition.
We will find out shortly if we cut it at Canary Wharf and will get through to the final 5 to pitch to an audience of 200 Business Individuals in London's BAFTA Theatre for the £20,000 prize.
Until then, keep your limbs crossed for us!
The judges were:
Lorna Collins, Director, Flying Start, NCGE;
James Murray-Wells, MD, Glasses Direct;
Huw Morgan, Head of Business Banking, HSBC;
Emma Crosby, Presenter, Sky News;
Jenny Little, Enterprise Editor, Financial Mail on Sunday;
Prof. Robert Blackburn, Director, Small Business Research Centre, Kingston University.

Quoted Online at 10 Downing Street.
I have discovered the transcript of the India-UK business summit held in Delhi on the '10 Downing Street' website for anyone interested in my contribution (or Brown or Branson's for that matter) to the entrepreneurship debate . It isn't entirely accurate but then that's written transcripts of verbal discussions for you. Please note, almost everytime it says "IT" It should read "IP" we were actually discussing Intellectual Property rights.
India-UK Business Summit
I was somewhat pleased to notice I am not just quoted as a generic 'Panel Member' but 'Amanda Jones' !

Support for ROSS in India
I caught this article from Scotland on Sunday and despite the title (which at first concerned me!) it is worth a read, certainly raised a smile at RBD-HQ. Nice to have the continued support of the media.
